Bareilly: A two-day Coloproctology Conference and Training Workshop at SRMS Medical College concluded on Sunday with free surgeries performed on more than 18 patients suffering from conditions including rectal prolapse, Grade III haemorrhoids, perianal abscess, anal fissure, anal fistula and pilonidal sinus.
The conference and workshop was organised by the Department of General, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at SRMS Medical College in association with the Bareilly Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India.
Former President of the International Society of Coloproctology (ISCP) Dr Prashant Rahate, Academic Convener Dr Dinesh Shah, Secretary Dr Neeraj Goyal, Joint Secretary Dr Madhukar Pai, along with Dr Anshul Shah, Dr SK Nigam, Dr Kalyan Kar, Dr Ankur Bansal, Dr Jiten Chaudhary and Dr Madhubala, performed various procedures in the operation theatre. The surgeries were telecast live to the auditorium, enabling participating doctors to observe the techniques and procedures.
Conference Chairman and Head of the Department of General, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery, Dr SK Sagar, said the second day of the workshop began at 8:30 am, with registered patients arriving for the planned procedures.
The first surgery was performed on Deep Chand Tiwari, who had been suffering from rectal prolapse for several years. Dr Prashant Rahate performed a Chivatte’s sacrorectopexy with perineorrhaphy. Dr Dinesh Shah operated on Talib Qureshi, who had Grade III haemorrhoids, using the Chivatte’s haemorrhoidopexy technique.
Dr Anshul Shah performed an examination under anaesthesia (EUA) on Shyamacharan for a perianal abscess, while Dr SK Nigam treated Deepak Singh for severe pain caused by an anal fissure through lateral internal sphincterotomy.
Several patients, including Chhavinath, Dhauli Devi, Jalees Ahmad, Babu Ram, Jagdish Chandra, Surendra Singh and Inder Pal, underwent procedures for anal fistula. The surgeries included fistulectomy, fistulectomy with sphincter repair, laser treatment with LIFT and EUA, performed by different specialists.
Dr Kalyan Kar treated Mohit Kumar for Grade II haemorrhoids using laser haemorrhoidopexy. Dr Jiten Chaudhary performed laser excision on Arish Ahmad for pilonidal sinus.
Vishnu Kumar, who had an anal fistula accompanied by an internal abscess, underwent an EUA procedure by Dr Madhukar Pai. Dr Madhubala performed MIPS surgery on Nainika for Grade III haemorrhoids.
Dr Harish Gowda operated on two other patients. Naveen Prasad, who had an anal fissure along with a complex fistula, underwent fistulectomy with fistulotomy, while Manohar Lal underwent surgery involving biopsy for a perianal posterior wall lump.
Dr SK Sagar said the workshop provided an opportunity for doctors and postgraduate students to observe advanced surgical techniques through live demonstrations. The participating specialists described the conference as successful and congratulated the organisers.
SRMS Medical College Director Aditya Murti, Association of Surgeons of India Bareilly Chapter President Dr Kaushal Kumar, Secretary Dr Sujoy Mukherjee, Conference and Training Workshop Secretary and ASI Bareilly Chapter Treasurer Dr Amit Singh, delegates and postgraduate students were present at the programme.
